Indian Head Massage
What is Indian Head Massage?
Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda, which has been practiced in India for over 5000 years.
Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit and means ‘the science of life and longevity’. This approach to healing, centres on the promotion of a long life through the balancing of the body, mind and spirit to achieve good health.
The treatment involves the therapist using their hands to knead, rub and squeeze the body’s soft tissues. Light pressure is applied in a gentle massage across the back and shoulders and the neck. The treatment is completed with a gentle scalp and face massage that leaves the client feeling fresh and relaxed.
Indian Head Massage can be carried out with or without the removal of clothing from the top half of the body. While traditionally the treatment is carried out using essential oils, a massage cream can be used as an alternative.
Health Benefits of Indian Head Massage.
If you suffer from serious neck tension then this treatment is the one for you. Indian head massage promotes total relaxation, and increases the circulation to the head neck and shoulders, which in turn improves skin condition and releases tension.
There is increased lymphatic flow which helps get rid of any toxins and other waste products. Headaches are relieved and clients suffering from arthritis and other joint problems have commented on increased mobility after regular treatment. The treatment lasts for 40 minutes.
Are there any side effects to the treatment?
After a treatment your body may experience a healing crisis. This is a perfectly natural response to treatment. You may feel lethargic, nauseous, tearful or feel cold but this will soon pass as your body restores its balance leaving you feeling revitalised. During your healing crisis your body is attempting to eliminate toxins, so it is important to drink plenty of water.
