Hopi Ear Candles

Many ancient cultures have used ear candles to cleanse the body. The Hopi Native American Indians are thought to be one of the oldest people still using ear candles. Ancient rock paintings show the use of Ear Candles at initiation rituals and medicinal ceremonies.

How do the Hopi Ear Candles work?
The candle has a purely physical function. A light suction action (a chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. A pleasant feeling of warmth can be felt in the ear, as the pressure in the sinus cavities equalises. Earache, headache, ear noise, stress and nervousness can all be soothed by the process. Treatment may also spontaneously cause freer nasal breathing and improve the sense of smell, even when the nose was blocked before treatment.

What are the candles made of?
The candles are made from a pesticide free untreated cotton, which is coated in beeswax & honey, Other ingredients include Chamomile, Sage and St Johns Wort. Manufactured by BIOSUN the ear candles are medical products class 11a according to medical directive 93/42/EEC.

What happens during the treatment?
You will be asked to lie down on one side in a comfortable position with your head supported on a pillow. You will experience the treatment more intensely if you close your eyes. Each candle takes approximately 10 minutes to burn down to the safety mark.

During the burning process you may experience a range of sounds in you ear this is perfectly normal.

After the first candle has burnt it will be extinguished in a glass of water. Your therapist will then gently massage around the ear before asking you to roll on to your other side to treat the next ear. To complete the treatment you will be asked to lie on your back with your eyes closed while the therapist gently massages the face and neck.
