Aromatherapy
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oils to stimulate the body’s own healing process. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years as a form of natural medicine and an aromatherapy massage can be used by anyone of any age to help maintain their health.
Essential oils treat the whole person's body, mind and spirit and as well as acting on a specific illness they can also be used as a preventative measure to strengthen the immune system against disease.
Can Aromatherapy be used during Pregnancy?
The simple answer is YES. Aromatherapy can be beneficial during pregnancy, labour and parenthood and there is a range of oils that are safe to use during this life changing time. Dawn can blend oils specific to your own needs and can offer a range if treatments from a simple and relaxing back massage, to an Indian Head Massage, incorporating the use of aromatherapy. A special prescription blend of oils for use in Labour can also be created for you, ask Dawn for more information.
What happens during an aromatherapy massage?
At the start of an aromatherapy massage your aromatherapist will create a blend of oils specifically for you, based on your general mood and current health problems. Different essential oils have different healing properties. For example Rosemary oil is known to have antiseptic and antispasmodic properties, while Frankincense is a very calm and reassuring oil for times of emotional stress. A full body aromatherapy massage includes scalp, face, neck, shoulders, abdomen, arms, legs and back and lasts for 1hour 15mins. A neck, and back massage lasts for 25mins.
