Amitayus Breast Cancer Support Group
We are pleased to be launching a Breast Cancer Support Group for the communities in and around Atherstone. This will be one of the first projects of the newly created social enterprise “Amitayus Healthy Living Ltd” and aims to provide targeted support for the wellbeing of women fighting breast cancer.
The Breast Cancer Support Group will be open to any woman who has been recently diagnosed, currently in treatment or has successfully completed treatment but feels they need continued support. The plan is that it will be facilitated by us and volunteers, but its activities will be mainly decided by the members themselves.
Help could include subsidised Complementary Therapy Treatments, discussions and training from cancer nutrition to meditation and relaxation, counseling, peer support and motivation, or anything else that the group feels we could provide or facilitate. We hope the group will provide a positive and friendly environment, working in addition or alongside other support services, to help enable women fighting against breast cancer to have the best possible outcome (and a good natter and cup of tea too!)
This group was launched at our Strawberry Tea fundraiser on July 3rd 2010. Apart from raising funds for the national charity "Breast Cancer Care", we also raised some initial funds to launch our own Breast Cancer Support Group.
What is a Social Enterprise?
The UK government defines social enterprises as "businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners." In other words any profits generated by Amitayus Healthy Living Limited (as opposed to Amitayus Wellbeing partnership) have to go back into the Social Enterprise and not to shareholders or business owners as dividends or excessive bonuses. But unlike a charity a Social Enterprise has to be self sustaining and generate the funds to keep itself going in its social aims. Although it can still benefit from accessing various types of funding to help achieve its social objective.
The aim of Amitayus Healthy Living Limited is to improve the health and wellbeing of our community by targeting specific needs in focused projects.
